Social Media and Events Intern
The Social Media and Events Intern supports Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) Communications team by assisting with social media management, digital content creation, and planning support for a major UTA-hosted event. This role helps ensure UTA's messaging is consistent, engaging, and aligned with broader communications initiatives, while providing focused event support tied to one large, agency-priority event.
The intern contributes to maintaining UTA's transparent and responsive social media presence and assists with event-related communications and logistics. This position offers hands-on experience in public-sector communications, social media strategy, and large-event coordination.
This is a full-time internship, working 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours may be required around the event. The internship is expected to last approximately 46 months.
Essential Functions
Social Media Support
Work alongside, support, and take direction from Social Media Strategist
Assist in developing and implementing UTA's social media strategy in alignment with agency communications goals
Create, schedule, monitor, and manage content across UTA social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and the UTA blog
Assist with responding to public inquiries and comments on social media in a timely, professional manner
Develop social media messaging to support agency projects, initiatives, and event promotion
Monitor social media trends, issues, and emerging platforms and share insights with the Communications team
Event Support (Single Major Event)
Work alongside, support and take direction from event lead; Marketing Events & Sponsorships Coordinator
Provide communications and logistical support for one large, UTA-hosted event
Assist with event planning tasks such as timelines, content coordination, and internal communication support
Support preparation of event materials, signage, and digital content
Assist with on-site event setup and day-of coordination
Support post-event activities such as content recap, social media coverage, and internal documentation
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training:
Currently enrolled junior or senior at an accredited college or university
Seeking an undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
Minimum GPA of 3.0
Experience:
Experience using social media platforms and social media management software
Previous experience with public relations, marketing, or event support is a plus
Skills:
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-directed
Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook and Word preferred
Abilities:
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Comfortable working in fast-paced environments, including during live events
Works effectively both independently and as part of a team
Other:
Evening and weekend availability may be required around the event
Valid driver's license preferred but not required
